“BREAKING THE SURFACE: THE LAW OF THE SEED”

Matthew 5:13–16 . . . “You are the salt of the earth; but if the salt loses its flavor, how shall it be seasoned? It is then good for nothing but to be thrown out and trampled underfoot by men. 14 “You are the light of the world. A city that is set on a hill cannot be hidden. 15 Nor do they light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on a lampstand, and it gives light to all who are in the house. 16 Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven.

Mark 4:26-29 . . . And He said, “The kingdom of God is as if a man should scatter seed on the ground, 27 and should sleep by night and rise by day, and the seed should sprout and grow, he himself does not know how. 28 For the earth yields crops by itself: first the blade, then the head, after that the full grain in the head. 29 But when the grain ripens, immediately he puts in the sickle, because the harvest has come.”

I. The “Law of the Seed” eliminates RANDOMNESS

The Law of the Seed – “Everything in life reproduces according to its kind—every result is the harvest of a seed once sown. ”

Mark 4:26–27 . . . And He said, “The kingdom of God is as if a man should scatter seed on the ground, 27 and should sleep by night and rise by day, and the seed should sprout and grow, he himself does not know how.

• It’s Unknowable – certain things God has reserved for Himself.

Mark 4:28 . . . For the earth yields crops BY ITSELF: first the blade, then the head, after that the full grain in the head.

• It's Automatic – aútomátē: God established all things to work according to a

Fixed Set of Laws and Principles.

Jeremiah 33:25–26a . . . “Thus says the LORD: ‘If My covenant is not with day and night, and if I have not appointed the ordinances of heaven and earth, 26 then I will cast away the descendants of Jacob and David My servant…”

Psalm 119:89-91 . . . Forever, O LORD, Your word is settled in heaven. 90 Your faithfulness endures to all generations; You established the earth, and it abides. 91 They continue this day according to Your ordinances, for all are Your servants.

Genesis 1:11–12 . . . Then God said, “Let the earth bring forth grass, the herb that yields seed, and the fruit tree that yields fruit according to its kind, whose seed is in itself, on the earth”; and it was so. 12 And the earth brought forth grass, the herb that yields seed according to its kind, and the tree that yields fruit, whose seed is in itself according to its kind. And God saw that it was good.

Galatians 6:7 . . . Do not be deceived, God is not mocked; for whatever a man sows, that he will also reap.

II. The “Law of the Seed” determines the Divine Order

Mark 4:28 . . . For the earth yields crops by itself: “FIRST THE BLADE, ” then the head, after that the full grain in the head.

• Emergence: the order that governs every stage of growth. Nothing skips steps in the Kingdom.

  • “The Blade first” proof of the underground work. – the blade is proof of life, proof of the process, and

  • “Visibility first” beginning of visibility. – the blade is not the fully developed plant—it is the

• Environment: When the blade breaks the surface, it immediately encounters a new environment.

• The New Environment is Exposure – This is what keeps us from our potential

Ephesians 5:8 . . . For you were once darkness, but now you are light in the Lord. Walk as children of light.

John 3:20–21 . . . For everyone practicing evil hates the light and does not come to the light, lest his deeds should be exposed. 21 But he who does the truth comes to the light, that his deeds may be clearly seen, that they have been done in God.”
