Self-Evaluation 2025
I. Every successful future is built on an honest assessment of the present
Luke 14:28–32 . . . For which of you, intending to build a tower, does not first sit down and estimate the cost, to see whether he has enough to complete it? 29 Otherwise, when he has laid a foundation and is not able to finish, all who see it will begin to ridicule him, 30 saying, ‘This fellow began to build and was not able to finish.’ 31 Or what king, going out to wage war against another king, will not sit down first and consider whether he is able with ten thousand to oppose the one who comes against him with twenty thousand? 32 If he cannot, then, while the other is still far away, he sends a delegation and asks for the terms of peace.
II. You never inherit what you’re unwilling to prepare for
Joshua 1:9–11 . . . Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous; do not be frightened or dismayed, for the LORD your God is with you wherever you go.” 10 Then Joshua commanded the officers of the people, 11 “Pass through the camp and command the people: ‘Prepare your provisions, for in three days you are to cross over the Jordan, to go in to take possession of the land that the LORD your God is giving you to possess.’”
III. Faith that refuses Self-Examination eventually becomes Self-Deception
2 Corinthians 13:5 . . . Examine yourselves as to whether you are in the faith. Test yourselves. Do you not know yourselves, that Jesus Christ is in you?—unless indeed you are disqualified.
QUESTION 1 - “How much of your Responsibility had to be covered by someone else this year?”
Proverbs 25:19 . . . Confidence in an unfaithful man in time of trouble is like a bad tooth and a foot out of joint.
QUESTION 2 - “How much responsibility did you carry for others?”
Galatians 6:2–5 . . . Brethren, if a man is overtaken in any trespass, you who are spiritual restore such a one in a spirit of gentleness, considering yourself lest you also be tempted. 2 Bear one another’s burdens, and so fulfill the law of Christ. 3 For if anyone thinks himself to be something, when he is nothing, he deceives himself. 4 But let each one examine his own work, and then he will have rejoicing in himself alone, and not in another. 5 For each one shall bear his own load.
Galatians 6:3 . . . For if anyone thinks himself to be something, when he is nothing, he deceives himself.
QUESTION 3 - How much of your progress was due to the decisions of others?
Ezekiel 18:20 . . . The soul who sins shall die. The son shall not bear the guilt of the father, nor the father bear the guilt of the son. The righteousness of the righteous shall be upon himself, and the wickedness of the wicked shall be upon himself.
QUESTION 4 - How much of your progress was the direct result of your own decisions?
Deuteronomy 30:19 . . . I call heaven and earth as witnesses today against you, that I have set before you life and death, blessing and cursing; therefore choose life, that both you and your descendants may live.
