GETTING TO KNOW THE HOLY SPIRIT – ACCORDING TO JESUS

The Holy Spirit must not be defended by scripture - He must be DEFINED by it.

I. Movement 1 – The Holy Spirit Begins the Life of Christ in Us

1. Creation: The Holy Spirit creates a new life through a new birth.

John 3:5-6 – 5Jesus answered, “Most assuredly, I say to you, unless one is born of water and the Spirit, he cannot enter the kingdom of God. 6That which is born of the flesh is flesh, and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit.

Core Purpose: To initiate divine life where none existed that is capable of perceiving and participating in the Kingdom of God.

2. Sustaining: The Holy Spirit becomes your inner source.

John 4:14 – “But whoever drinks of the water that I shall give him will never thirst. But the water that I shall give him will become in him a fountain of water springing up into everlasting life.”

Core purpose: To provide ongoing internal supply for spiritual vitality.

II. Movement 2 – The Holy Spirit Establishes Life and Relationship

3. Expression: The Holy Spirit releases life to others.

John 7:38-39 – 38“He who believes in Me, as the Scripture has said, out of his heart will flow rivers of living water. 39But this He spoke concerning the Spirit, whom those believing in Him would receive; for the Holy Spirit was not yet given, because Jesus was not yet glorified.”

Core Purpose: To make the believer a conduit of divine life to others.

4. Relationship: The Holy Spirit establishes a permanent residence.

John 14:16-17 – 16And I will pray the Father, and He will give you another Helper, that He may abide with you forever—17the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive, because it neither sees Him nor knows Him; but you know Him, for He dwells with you and will be in you.

Core Purpose: To anchor the believer in an uninterrupted covenant relationship.

III. Movement 3 – The Spirit Forms the Life of Christ within Us

5. Illumination: The Holy Spirit illuminates THE TRUTH.

John 14:26 – “But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in My name, He will TEACH you all things, and bring to your remembrance all things that I said to you.”

Core Purpose: To internalize Christ’s words so they reshape the mind.

6. Focus: The Holy Spirit testifies of Christ.

John 15:26 – “But when the Helper comes, whom I shall send to you from the Father, the Spirit of truth who proceeds from the Father, He will testify of Me.”

Core Purpose: To continually direct hearts and minds toward Christ so that faith, devotion, and understanding are CENTERED on Him.

7. Alignment: The Holy Spirit convicts.

John 16:8 – “And when He has come, He will convict the world of sin, and of righteousness, and of judgment.”

Core Purpose: To govern the inner life and preserve spiritual integrity.

8. Direction: The Holy Spirit guides into the truth.

John 16:13 – “However, when He, the Spirit of truth, has come, He will guide you into all truth; for He will not speak on His own authority, but whatever He hears He will speak; and He will tell you things to come.”

Core Purpose: To shepherd the believer through life in alignment with truth.

9. Orientation: The Holy Spirit glorifies Christ.

John 16:14 – “He will glorify Me, for He will take of what is Mine and declare it to you.”

Core Purpose: To magnify Christ in a believer’s life.

IV. Movement 4 – The Holy Spirit extends the life of Christ through us.

10. Expansion: The Holy Spirit empowers us for global witness.

Acts 1:8 – “But you shall receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you shall be witnesses to Me in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth.”

Core Purpose: To advance the Kingdom through Spirit-enabled witness.
