The Work of the Holy Spirit: When Jesus Becomes Personal

I. Eternal Life Is Not Merely Believing in Jesus — It Is Knowing Jesus

John 17:3 – And this is eternal life, that they may know You, the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom You have sent.

II. The Holy Spirit Makes Jesus Personal, Not Merely Historical

1 Peter 1:6-9 – In this you greatly rejoice, though now for a little while, if need be, you have been grieved by various trials, 7that the genuineness of your faith, being much more precious than gold that perishes, though it is tested by fire, may be found to praise, honor, and glory at the revelation of Jesus Christ,8whom having not seen you love. Though now you do not see Him, yet believing, you rejoice with joy inexpressible and full of glory, 9receiving the end of your faith—the salvation of your souls.

John 14:16-18 – 16And I will pray the Father, and He will give you another Helper, that He may abide with you forever—17the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive, because it neither sees Him nor knows Him; but you know Him, for He dwells with you and will be in you. 18I will not leave you orphans; I WILL COME to you.

Romans 5:5 – Now hope does not disappoint, because the love of God has been poured out in our hearts by the Holy Spirit who was given to us.

Galatians 4:6 – And because you are sons, God has sent forth the Spirit of His Son into your hearts, crying out, “Abba, Father!”

III. The Holy Spirit Settles in the Heart What the Mind May Already Believe

Romans 5:8 – But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.

John 17:20-21 – 20 “I do not pray for these alone, but also for those who will believe in Me through their word; 21 that they all may be one, as You, Father, are in Me, and I in You; that they also may be one in Us, that the world may believe that You sent Me.
