Will You Be At the Wedding? Matt 25:1-13 |Dr Michael Cloer | Aug 2, 2026

Revelation 19:6-9 “Then I heard what seemed to be the voice of a great multitude, like the roar of many waters and like the sound of mighty peals of thunder, crying out, “Hallelujah! For the Lord our God the Almighty reigns.  Let us rejoice and exult and give him the glory, for the marriage of the Lamb has come, and his Bride has made herself ready; it was granted her to clothe herself with fine linen, bright and pure”—for the fine linen is the righteous deeds of the saints. And the angel said to me, “Write this: Blessed are those who are invited to the marriage supper of the Lamb.”

Matthew 25:1-13

1 “Then the kingdom of heaven shall be likened to ten virgins who took their lamps and went out to meet the bridegroom.‍ ‍2-3 Now five of them were wise, and five were foolish.  Those who were foolish took their lamps and took no oil with them, 4 but the wise took oil in their vessels with their lamps.5 But while the bridegroom was delayed, they all slumbered and slept.‍ ‍6 “And at midnight a cry was heard: ‘Behold, the bridegroom is coming; go out to meet him!’7 Then all those virgins arose and trimmed their lamps. 8 And the foolish said to the wise, ‘Give us some of your oil, for our lamps are going out.’ 9 But the wise answered, saying, ‘No, lest there should not be enough for us and you; but go rather to those who sell, and buy for yourselves.’ 10 And while they went to buy, the bridegroom came, and those who were ready went in with him to the wedding; and the door was shut. 11 “Afterward the other virgins came also, saying, ‘Lord, Lord, open to us!’ 12 But he answered and said, ‘Assuredly, I say to you, I do not know you.’‍ ‍13“Watch therefore, for you know neither the day nor the hour in which the Son of Man is coming.

1. The Reality of His Coming

Rev 1:7 Behold, He is coming with clouds, and every eye will see Him, even they who pierced Him. And all the tribes of the earth will mourn because of Him. Even so, Amen.

2 Peter 3:3-4 First of all, you must understand that in the last days some people will appear whose lives are controlled by their own lusts. They will make fun of you and will ask, “He promised to come, didn't he? Where is he?”

His Coming is Sure

Matt 24:35 “Heaven and earth will pass away, but My words will by no means pass away.”

His Coming is Secret

Matt 24:36 “But of that day and hour no one knows, not even the angels of heaven, but My Father only.”

Matt 24:42 “Watch therefore, for you do not know what [g]hour your Lord is coming.”

Matt 24:44 “Therefore you also be ready, for the Son of Man is coming at an hour you do not expect.”

His Coming is Sudden

Matt 24:27 “ For as the lightning comes from the east and flashes to the west, so also will the coming of the Son of Man be.”

His Coming is Suspenseful

Matt 24: 37-38 “But as the days of Noah were, so also will the coming of the Son of Man be.  For as in the days before the flood, they were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage, until the day that Noah entered the ark,”

His Coming is Selective

Matt 24:40-41 “Then two men will be in the field: one will be taken and the other left. Two women will be grinding at the mill: one will be taken and the other left.”
